Simon leaving is nothing new. I've known about it for a while. I just can't get over the fact that Ellen is going to be a judge! Was she a musician in a past life or was she a musician and I didn't know about it? Every single judge on that show was a musician, or produced music or both. She is neither. She is comedian. I wonder whose brilliant idea that was? It certainly wouldn't have been mine.

I don't think the show will be nearly as good without Simon on board. I also am not sure if I can watch much this season with Ellen on board. She is just not entertaining to me. I am wondering how a contestant could possibly take any advice from her seriously.

I will be interested to see how the dynamic of this show goes with Paula gone and Ellen there. Simon leaving will alter the show. I guess this is why they brought in Kara b/c they knew there main people would be leaving. Supposedly Simon wants to do the X Factor live in Las Vegas and livestream it over the internet and make people pay to watch it over the internet. I don't think that will fly but who knows.

The auditions are my favorite part. Can't wait to see Ellen's remarks. Let the games begin!

I don't think Ellen is in the auditions. I believe the auditions were already going on before Ellen was announced. They do have guest judges though during the auditions.

Ellen will add something that this show has always lacked, a music fan's input. Advice from someone who listens to pop music rather than makes it will give a whole different point of view. I'm actually looking forward to hearing what she has to say.

I thought I read that Simon was going to do X Factor on Fox during the Fall? So it would be X Factor in the Fall, American Idol during the Winter, and then So You Think You Can Dance after that. I do hope the old rumor comes true and Paula becomes a mentor on X Factor. I think the English show is much better than American Idol anyway. Watching Whitney Houston guest on the past series was hilarious. Uncabeeil, I think that's the most insightful thing I've read or heard anyone say about Ellen being on the show. It is the fans that vote them through, after all. Typical audition episode. Sob stories, exploitation of people that have no idea about anything, and the random good voices that we'll probably never see again.

I thought it was pretty boring. I watched Biggest Loser for part of the time. Got tired the way Simon and Randy made comments about how the Kara and Victoria (what was up with her headband?) would like the male contestants. Maybe I seem uncaring, but I do not like the sob stories. I would prefer to see the back stories after they have made it farther along. It just never seemed right to highlight some and not others. I am almost sure that Justin made it to Hollywood last year.

The best line from Simon was when he told someone that he sounds like a 3 year old and dressed like La Toya Jackson...for some reason I though he would say Michael but La Toya was better The "girls" were jumping all over Simon for saying that. I thought Simon was just saying what everybody else was thinking. That guy was bizarre. I hope the guy with the big glasses gets a clue. He had a pretty good voice but he was totally obnoxious.

The auditions are my favorite part. Me too. I was laughing so hard last night. I guess some people really really want their 15 mins. of fame despite looking like foolish.

I was somewhat bored watching last night. The show didn't seem to have the same oomph that it has had in years past. Victoria Beckham did well in her stint as a judge. She seems to be nice. I will continue to watch.

Last night was just blah. Some lovely voices but nobody who jumped out at you and made you remember them. The only one I can vaguely remember is that guy with the open shirt and curly hair...Steve Morris guy? The rest I can just remember for their stories...cancer guy...girl with all the special needs siblings....etc. I agree that I hate having my emotions jerked around like that. I would far rather learn this kind of stuff after say, they got to the live rounds and I actually cared about how contestants are doing. I stopped liking this a couple of seaons ago when they showed this lady who was poor and had a special needs daughter. Cue the tears...I'm just doing this so my child can have a better life...sniff. Then she was eliminated in Hollywood without a backwards glance. Now I make it a point not to focus on the contestants this early in the show so I won't get attatched to them. Posh/Mrs. Beckham was nice, but I was hoping for a little more...color? Gumption in standing up to Simon? She reminded me of a less flighty Paula. Yeah, I can see Kara taking over Simon's role of Grumpy Judge. Still won't be the same, though. With Simon leaving the heart and soul of that show will be gutted. I don't see how it can go on since it's already limping compared to past years. That reminds me. I was going over past winners last night, and I couldn't remember. When did Taylor Hicks win? Season 5 or 6? Who was the runner-up when he won? I saw that Fantasia is going to release a new album. Any news about the other past winners?

Some more than 15 minutes. The Mary chick looked very, very familiar, as if she's been humiliated in past shows before. Simon is more than a grumpy judge. He is an honest judge who knows the music industry. I heard someone on TMZ mention Elton John as a good replacement choice, but I doubt he'll do it. Otherwise, I don't think they'll even try to replace Simon. They'll bring in someone completely new. I think I'll be DVRing X Factor instead. Roomie heard 30 seconds of Kid with Special Needs Siblings and declared her the winner. I pointed out that they waste a lot of camera time on people who don't make it past Hollywood week. Anybody catch that Cancer Guy was diagnosed when he was "serving a mission?" Call me overly observant, but I think he's a Mormon. Christians who are missionaries say they are "doing missionary work." A mission, in my limited experience, is a rite of passage for young Mormons.

Simon has always been my favorite judge, precisely because of his honesty. Paula was sweet but her inane comments ("At least your hair was lovely") really did nothing for me. I like Randy, but after a thousand "Dude, we've got a hot one tonight!" comments it's gotten old. It's almost a little embarrassing. I honestly don't know if I'll watch AI after Simon's gone. I might sneak a peek, but I just don't know... Yes, I noticed the missionary comment. I, too, was wondering if he were Mormon or Christian. I don't know anything about Mormon terminology, but something just told me that he was probably Mormon. I don't know why...just gut instinct.

This may sound strange, but do you think he had Asperger's or something? I mean, just the way he seemed so clueless about how what he said was wrong. A dear friend of our family's has an adult son with Asperger's, and if we didn't know, we might get offended sometimes at his more plainspoken comments.

I missed the first 30 minutes due to my cable company having a problem with the channel. About Ellen...I had read that they were considering Kristen Chenoweth before picking her. I think Ellen is a nice person who can hold her own, but MAN...Kristen Chenoweth would have been fantastic! She is such a funny little pixie. Oh, to the person who posted about Bryan...he can sing!

last night had some pretty good possibilities...Bryan has got some talent, but I am not sure if he can make it to the finals....the young guy Jermaine was my fav of the night. I could see him winning it all...the girl who some are saying sounds like Carrie Underwood wasn't too bad...but I don't know how well she can take advice and adapt to the demands ...she def. has a lot of confidence which is great to see. "Pants on the ground" guy is worth his age in gold...lol

I was annoyed watching Mary J Blige laugh at the contestants who were serious about singing (even if they weren't very good). I know some of them are funny, but she seemed rude and childish.
