I was just wondering if anyone attends a young adult ministry at their church, or somewhere else. We just began a new young adult class at church and it's sort of off to a slow start. The last 2 weeks have been mostly planning. We've had a few different YA classes/ministries before, but they never seem to last very long. What kind of things do you do and/or discuss in your classes? Do you have a mature leader in charge of things, or is it sort of self-run?

Our youth group has a branch off of it for the young singles/married people that are leaders in youth group. It is very helpful to be able to hang out with other people who are kind of in the same stage of life as you are. Our church's youth pastor is in charge and we get together once a month to just talk and discuss what God is doing in our lives. A few months back we also went to Kansas City to watch the Royals play and then went to Worlds of Fun the next day!(Young adult guys sure do scream like little girls?!) Anyway, it was a very fun time and allowed me to deepen my relationship with some of my friends. Good luck with yours and may God bless it!

We have a young adult sunday school class at my church and we also have tuesday night worship/bible study group.
currently we have a man who is married he teaches our class and on some sundays one of our class mates teaches the lesson. (so both) lol

In sunday school we have a book we kinda do lessons from and use our bibles and learn but on tuesday nights its more free with what we study or debate about and such its laid back.

It maybe a slow start but it will get better... with young adult classes you have so many different people who are in college and work...and sometimes its just hard for a lot to show up or in some cases you have those who go college get away from home and not come to church...So keep praying and just keep trusting in God!

I live about 30 minutes from Worlds of Fun, and yes, young adult boys can sound very much like young adult girls ...If we can even get them on the rides in some cases.

More on topic, our youth pastor also works a full time job outside of church, so taking on the young adults would be a challenge. All but 2 of our Youth workers are young adults, but then we also have about 8 couples and some singles that aren't involved with the youth group at all.

I'm not in a young adults ministry but am going to start going to a young adults bible study tommorow night! We will be studying Matthew.

I'm involved with my church's young adults \ college & career ministry. We have a midweek service, a Sunday school class, and various activities and service projects. These days, I'm more adult than young adult (almost 28), and I help lead the group.

We've done different things through the years. I was away at college myself for a while, but involved off-and-on when I wasn't in school. Sometimes, one of the church's staff pastors has oversaw the group; other times, it has been entirely lay-led. Even when we had a pastor, much of the teaching and stuff was lay-led, as the staff pastor had other responsibilities during portions of our services and couldn't always be there. For several years, a good friend of mine has been the group's coordinator, teaching, preaching, organizing, and leading as necessary, depending on the situation. More recently, my friend has been serving as the group's "pastor" in many ways, preaching every week and teaching the class, as well as coordinating, discipling, and praying with people. So, in the past it was self-run, but these days, there is a "mature leader" in charge - it just happens to be the same guy.

The group has been around for about 10 years now, and I've been affiliated with the church the whole time, so it's a little difficult for me to summarize what we do and talk about at our meetings. It started with a Sunday class and a monthly service and grew from there, and they began having midweek services. At times, we've had a consistent speaker (a staff pastor or the coordinator), but at other times, we've set up a rotation and a few of us have taught together. We've hit on pretty much every major biblical theme or topic. Currently, the coordinator is teaching through the Sermon on the Mount in Sunday School. Before that, I did a series on the attributes of God. Meanwhile, the wife of the senior pastor is preaching at our midweek services on various themes, but they are often dream \ call \ God's-plan-for-your-life or basic Christianity \ holiness related. The senior pastor was just hired a few months back, but he used to be on staff at the church as the youth pastor and then later the college and career pastor, so he and his wife have an interest in and familiarity with the group.

I don't want to post a lengthy history of our group because I doubt that is what you are looking for. If you have any specific questions I can help with, like activity suggestions or study guide \ topic suggestions, let me know.

There is nothing really at our church for the Young Adults and we just started the Small groups for the Fall.

I think our Pastor was thinking about taking Saturday and giving a church service for just the young adults. That could be fun. :D

Things I would suggest tho. Scripture study. Talk about life issues. Relevant life issues and let the Spirit lead. Then there are always board games, Icebreakers, sports, movies, hanging out...

you know...

My church is still too small to do something like that, but I am in the process of looking up stuff here on campus, it is wonderful to have daily interaction with believers who are my age.

I attend a church that averages 700 on Sundays. Our YA class has 25-30 each Sunday. A lot of college students go to that church. But there is a different Sunday school class for them. Our Sunday school class is primarily for the singles in the church. Not necessarily students.

I've attended many "Young Adults" groups in the past and I'm involved with one right now.

They usually fall into two categories... either they're more "Bible Study" like or more "Meat/Meet Market" like.

I prefer the Bible Study type and out of all the groups I've been involved with I like it best when it was "self led" by the people who attended. But it might take a few years of having a "leader" before you have the kind of attendance where it could be self led.

Young Adults groups grow as members invite friends, coworkers, etc. You just have to give your reputation time.

Yeah, small group Bible study for just-out-of-HS/starting-college guys. Quick teaching with some great ministry time and fellowship.

My church sorta has a young adult thing that is self-run. Since it's inception, the young adults have met up one time, and I was out of town that day. Our Church only has about 90-100 people in it. There are about 10 people in the young adult category (which ranges from 18-28 years old).
