Do you go crazy with outdoor lights every year? I see a lot of beautiful light displays, however I do see a lot of trashy displays of lights that are thrown up any ole which way with no taste or planning at all. I see all kinds of yards with all kinds of christmas baloons of snow globes, and snow men, and santa claus & reindeer, and the whole yard looks like a junk heap of christmas stuff.

Don't people know the real meaning of Christmas?

We have icicles above the front porch, and a star up in our bedroom window (front of the house).
I personally don't like the fairy grotto look but hey, each to this own.

He's the main character in the National Lampoon Movies.

He lights up his house so bright in the "Christmas Vacation" movie that the nuclear power plant has to kick in emergency power.

There are some people that can put up MILLONS of lights and have the space and ability to make it look absolutely beautiful and there are some people that can put up one string of icicle lights and make it look extremely tacky.

last year getting the lights up didn't work out the way we planned. I'm digging the Christmas lights out tomorrow and I thing this year we'll go with simple swag lights on the front porch and some sidewalk trees along the walk. That will be about it.

Blessings,

Garsy

There is a beautiful old neighborhood here that if full of big old live oaks & banyan trees. The whole street strings the icicle lights below the big branches in the trees it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. The city drives bus tours through each year to enjoy it. I'm so glad they do it, but I would never want throngs of people by the bus load coming through my yard every night!

We stay very simple, not sure what we will do this year...

I'm not putting up lights because my outdoor outlet is in the backyard.

I did hang gold tinsel like golden Spanish moss and some shiny Christmas balls from my crepe myrtle. It twinkles when the sun shine on it.

One man's "overdone" is another man's work of art. For example, if you can't read by the light of the tree, my father will say there aren't enough lights.

Ummmmm, don't they sell extension cords down there?

I put zero lights outside.

There's a show (at least last year there was) on TLC or HGTV or one of those channels that shows several houses throughout the US that go WAAAY overboard with their lights. It's fascinating really, you should check it out if it's on this year. It will blow your mind how overboard some people go.

I saw that show last year. Think Tim Allen with an unlimited budget.

When I was a kid, one family used to turn their home into Santa's workshop. It used to take them months to set everything up. The guest book had visitors from Canada to Florida.

We've never put up Christmas lights before, but I'm putting up a few this year.

I wrapped rope lights diagonally around the trunks of our two pin oak trees in front of the house, and outlined our front windows with white lights. Tomorrow I'm going to hang a simple green wreath with a red bow on each window on the front of the house, and outline the front door with a garland of greenery and white lights. I'd also like to find some of those little candles to put in the windows. I used to have a set years ago.

I just put candles in my windows, and a wreath on my door, this year I am putting white lights around my porch.

I have my white wire tree out on the porch with some red bells hanging. That is it so far and may be all that gets done this year. We usually put up icicle lights and lights on the bushes with some deer in the front yard. My husband has been busy finishing the basement and hasn't had time to put the lights outside so it may just be my tree this year. I might see if I can get the lights on the bushes at least but not climbing on the roof.

This will be the first year we put some up on our house.

I like looking at other people's, and haven't seen any I don't like.

We usually put one strand of lights out around the front porch roof, and then we put up the candle lights inthe front windows. We also vary the colors of lights. Some years we will do all blue which gives it a quiet and peaceful look, and other years we do the mult color lights.

There is one person that does his whole backyard in Christmas lights. He turns it into a Christmas Wonderland. He charges a $1.00 admission and has to have a special permit from the local Suberb that he lives in. He starts putting the lights up in August, and has a very big back yard.
