I'm a parent that's tired of my children bothering neighbors with chocolates, magazines and raffles and I KNOW that my neighbors have had enough with it.
I feel bad for my kids because their Private School needs the money but I've put hours upon hours of volunteering for bake sales and my money into this school.

Do any of you have ideas for Private School fund raisers??
I want to bring new ideas to the school that doesn't require me spending money on any more chocolates.

Thanks in advanced!

Several restaurants around here have nights when anyoen who comes in and says they are here with such and such school or maybe has a flyer or whatever a percentage of their order goes to the school. Some places that do that are Isaac's Deli and Hoss's. I think Pizza Hut does too.

Our school has Pizza Hut nights, as Zoebob mentioned. We also do homemade dinners once a month and raise about $750 each time (and we just started, so the amount should go up as word of mouth spreads). Successful fundraisers that give the school a higher percentage than some others...flower bulbs (50%), Enjoy the City coupon books (40%, I think).

Our biggest fundraiser is an annual golf tournament. It raises between $7,500 and $10,000. It is a TON of work for the people who head it up, but well worth it in the end.

Not really a fundraiser, but our school takes foreign exchange students who are usually full tuition paying (as opposed to many in the school who have income-adjusted tuition) and that increases our bottom line also. We had four last year and three this year.

We basically banned the product sales a few years ago. We do a few "spirit nights" at restaurants where a portion goes back to the school. We do SCRIP cards, Campbell's Soup Lables, Box Tops 4 Education...there's really no reason not to be doing those things! I'm trying to get my Asst Principal to sign our school up for Coke Rewards - knowing several moms who have a Diet Coke habit almost as bad as my own, we could be making a lot off those! I just recently found out you can allocate Coke Rewards to a particular school - but that school has to be registered, like with Box Tops, for that. We have a big fundraiser in the Spring but all these little things really add up throughout the year - we've made $3700 on Box Tops alone already this year! Someone on our Board is working on putting together a list of all these fundraising opportunities that really don't cost parents anything, it's just taking one extra step with things you're already buying or something else you're already doing. I'm anxious to get that list.

I forgot about SCRIP cards. The school I work at lets parents use them to help pay their tuition. If they can afford to pay their tuition they can still use them and they go to a general fund. Also, one of our grocery stores around here lets you register your savings card and 1% of all purchases go to the school

Collecting soda cans for the deposits? If you do that, try hitting up businesses too, not just individuals. In my small office w/ just 10 people, we generate $15-$20/wk in deposit receipts.

We do the tuition reduction program with scrip too (SCRIP T.r.i.p.). The family gets half the proceeds on whatever cards they buy.

There are a lot of stores that have kickback program people don't even know about - Target and Staples are two.

Our school collects aluminum can tabs for recycling (our state doesn't have a deposit like what iluvatar mentions), box tops for education, and Nestle Pure Life Water labels (for playground equipment). Tyson also has the A+ labels program, but we don't participate in that one. I think it's .24 to the school for each label.

They've got a chili supper and auction coming up soon as a fundraiser. Spaghetti suppers usually also go pretty well. Our school does something called 'Pancakes for Parents' 'Donuts for Dads' and 'Muffins for Moms' during the year where you go up and have breakfast with your child before school starts. It's free, but it would probably make a good fundraiser too.

Something new they're doing this year, is having the students design their own Christmas cards to sell. The students each draw a picture, and then their artwork is turned into a Christmas card, and each family buys a box of their child's cards. I think it's $7 for a box of 10 cards. Sounds like fun.

Oh and the school sells calendars, T-shirts, and sweatshirts with the school logo on it at different times during the year.

That's all I can think of right now.

Even in the public schools you have to do fundraisers these days, (Sigh!) At my daughter's elementary public school, they started doing silent auctions, and they raised more $$ with that than they ever did with selling stuff from catalogues. The parents and teachers have to really want to contribute to it, tho, both as buyers and as ones providing things to be auctioned off. One woman who had a flooring business donated $350 worth of hardwood floor care products. Other things were: a unicycle and lessons to learn how to ride it. We got that and that's how my dau got started in unicycling. Home cooked meals for 2 wks, a facial, nights out at local entertainment places, theaters, restaurants, etc. They also had a catgory where there was a set price for something, and when all the slots were filled, the item was closed. Example: Sledding party for 10 kids, including lunch and rides home, $10/each, or: go to someone's house and make cookies to take home, play a few games, for 10 kids, $10/ each. If you have people who have businesses in your school, you can come up all sorts of neat things for others to bid on, and it is a tax break for the business, so everyone benefits. If you have people who are crafty, handmade items go well, esp if you hold your auction b4 Christmas. Someone who can make anything handmade, knit or crochet items, doll clothes, etc, can sell their stuff for unique Christmas gifts. Also, each class at our school decided on a theme basket to be put in the auction. The kids got letters to bring home descibing what sorts of things the parents could contribute for that class' basket. For instance, a class could make a "new baby basket" filled with all sorts of new baby things. The kids bring in the things and a parent of one of them puts it together in an attractive basket to be auctioned off. Great gift for someone to get for someone expecting. You have to set an opening bid of maybe half what the item is actually worth, and people just go around the room putting their names down for the srtuff they want, with a bid for what they are willing to pay. Since everything is donated, the school makes 100% profit. They should provide refreshments, or something, but these can be donated by parents and teachers also. Or they could charge a little for the refreshments. People have to have something to do while they are walking around looking at the various items. They also had entertainment in the form of the school band/orchestra palying a few numbers, or even parents/teachers getting together and putting on little skits or musical numbers. It was always a fun nite, and I miss it, now that my dau is in Jr Hi.

Now that I think about it, I believe the opening bid was usually about 25% of the actual worth of the item. Lots of room for the bids to go up. If there was a real popular item that people wanted, it might result in "bidding wars" which was fun to watch.

Is this a christian school and if it is is it really right to beg for money from unbeliever's? Are they linked to a church and does the congregation fund this school? I don't mean to sound negative, but scripturally believers should be funding their own.

Hmmm...not sure I agree with that, Deb. Public schools do fundraisers, and that AFTER taking how much money from property owners in the form of school taxes?

Our Christian school has a lot of funding from the church and the church also provides the building and other incidentals. The church cannot afford to do more. The parents cannot afford to pay more. Fundraising fills in the gap between donations/tuitions and salaries.

I don't find it wrong to ask unbelievers to support the school. I don't believe in the local public education, but I'll support kids that I know there. BTW, my son doesn't ask anyone but family to buy things or go to events. But some of them aren't saved...

Our private high school and elementary school always had problems with
our fundraisers in the past. Most of them would take a lot of work,
and parents were seemed to be tired of us asking for donations. Last year
our private school found this company
http://www.FundRaisingPrintStore.com that has gives you an ONLINE
PRINT STORE, for all of the items that we had to print anyways. They
also gave us 15% commission on ALL ORDERS put through our private
school's branded site, and we didn't have to do anything! We even got
our business cards for our staff loaded in the site, and it saved us
time and money using our own print shop.

They have a special offering for private schools which I got through a
friend. Go to http://www.fundraisingprintstore.com/private-school.html
to get the discounted rate.

Hope it helps!!

We do fund raising too, yet do it in other way. We do have serenade and concert.
There are several reasons why we are doing this;
1. exposure and training of children,
2. Develop their talents
3. Provide interventions and diversions to a more productive activities
4. Raise funds
Godspeed!

Is there a scripture you can back this up with? I'm curious. I'm not against or for what you are saying, I'd just like to know for my own benefit, not a debate.

Well, one off the top of my head is about being "unequally yoked with unbelievers." Sorry, I'm running late and can't look up the referance now. Just my opinion. I'm kind of funny about where money comes from when the "church" is involed.

I have no idea how that could be stretched to apply to school fundraising. Are you thinking an unsaved grandparent, for example, shouldn't financially support their grandchild's Christian school because the money might have to pass through the church's accounting office? What if the school handles all their money separately? But if their being funded by the church on some things, should they still not take money from the unbelieving grandmother? I don't get it.
