How Did You Deliver?
Please post your birth stories as well. I had a c-section and although I am glad I didn't have to endure a vaginal deliver, I feel somewhat disappointed that I didn't. Is that weird?
Oh, well, I am very curious to hear all your birth stories, postive experiences or negative.

I can't seem to vote on the poll, but I opted for a c-section.
After a pelvic exam my dr. informed me that my pelvis was on the small side and that it would be a tight squeeze to deliver my baby vaginally. He said that it would be a risk to both the baby and I if I delivered vaginally. So, I had a c-section. I was thrilled to have one because I am utterly and completely TERRIFIED of the thought of having a vaginal birth. I am someone who cannot take extreme pain very well. I tend to get extreme fear and anxiety and freak out. Well, now that I have had the c-section, I feel a little bit disappointed in myself. I am glad that I delivered by c-sec so not to put my baby at risk, but sometimes I feel a little disappointed that I didn't do it vaginally. However, I am glad I didn't have to go through the pain, agony, and anxiety of a vaginal birth.

Both of my labors were induced with pitocin. My first was past her due date, so the doctor induced labor. My second was born overseas, and the doctor induced at thirty-eight weeks so that I could plan to have family in town for the birth and to help out afterwards. (I know this isn't the best reason for an induction, but it worked for us.)
Both were vaginal deliveries without complications. My labor lasted for eight hours with my first daughter, and I had an epidural. My labor was only an hour long with my second daughter, so there was no time for any pain medication. I would definitely have preferred an epidural again and made sure to tell the doctor that in the brief two minutes that I spent pushing. And screaming. 
Mom01, you made the best decision for you and your baby. You're a hero for doing what it took to deliver your little one into the world as safely as possible. I'm so sorry that you feel disappointed in yourself when you were obviously doing what was best.

That sounds just like me!
I've had 4 children. Two w/ epidurals that didn't quite take, one that worked like a dream, and one w/out an epidural at all.

Purejoy, I so had the same feelings about the epidural. I did not waste any time and got the epidural at 3cm, 45 minutes after arriving at the hospital. It was so nice, I watched TV, got on the laptop, played cards with my hubby until it was time to push. Easy peasy....I only pushed for 3 contractions, so nine pushes and he was out. That was my second.
My first, I was set on being unmedicated, but ended up changing my mind after 20 hours. They offered the Demerol first, NEVER AGAIN! If you've ever been drunk, imagine what it would be like to be in labor and drunk at the same time....that's what it felt like. Terrible, and out of control. At that point I was freaking out and ended up getting the eidural. I was able to sleep for 6 hours after that.

Most women I have heard of seem not to like the idea of having a c-sec. Personally, I feel like I got off really easy!  I can say that I have had a baby, yet I have never been in labor. I couldn't tell you what a contraction feels like, other than a braxton hicks contraction. I got to skip the worry of tearing, having an episiotomy, getting hemerrohids, loss of bladder control, etc.
I was also blessed to have an amazing dr. who is excellent in surgery. The scary thing about vaginal delivery is that you never know exactly how your birth is going to go. I have heard positive birth stories and I have heard TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE birth stories. During my pregnancy I feared and dreaded the birth, so when I found out that I had a reason to have a c-sec, I was OVER JOYED!!! Sometimes when I hear positive birth stories it makes me think to myself "If only I had atleast tried to have a vaginal delivery", but at the same time, I am glad my son had an easy time coming into this world. I am also thrilled at the thought that I probably will never have to worry about experiencing a painful vaginal delivery.

Short story? 2 kids, no meds, both vaginal.
Long stories...
Big Bee was due on 6-11, on 6-6 my back ached but I had slept on the couch. Got up and burned some brush and was back in the house when my water broke at 8:55. Called Poppa, tried to shower off the smokey smell but my back hurt too bad to stand up. PBee was doing his thing after he got home and I had my first contraction at 9:35, the next around 9:45, then 9:50 and Poppa started moving. 45 minute drive to the hospital and about 1/2 way there I felt like I had to go poop. I remember that my SIL had that feeling WITH the epidural so I figured the pain had to go up several notches before I was ready so I told him to keep driving. By the time we got to the hospital (10:40) the triage nurse was patting me and telling me to breathe so that I could give her the info and wouldn't take it from Poppa and when she got to how many minutes apart, PBee said 'it is how many a minute'. I was scared because everyone said the first is at least a week late and you'll lay there for HOURS. When the orderly starts hitting buttons on all the elevator door you start to panic a smidge. They put me in a room and the nurse took one look 'down there' and said she'd get the doctor NOW and I really worried. After about a minute, the nurse looked at me and said that I could push if I wanted to, but she wasn't pulling the bed back until the doctor got there. BigBee arrived at 11:10am - so 2 hr, 15m after my water broke, no pain meds. 7#14oz
DeeDee was 'late'. She was originally due 9-9 but when they checked at 6 months, they moved it to 9-2 because she was so big. I went in on Tuesday and they said that if I didn't deliver on Wednesday I was getting induced Thursday (or was it visited Wednesday, induce Friday) and I said no. It was almost funny. They were telling me what time to be there and what I should do and I kept saying I wasn't going in for an induction. She wasn't under any stress, she hadn't even hit the due date based on conception, and I don't volunteer to do ANYTHING I don't want to do that involves the words 'be here before 5:30am'. And I didn't go. Saturday, we got up and Poppa was doing laundry with the ringer. BigBee was already at grandma's and I didn't tell him I was having contractions until the laundry was almost done. Then, I ate lunch. So, we got to the hospital a little after noon and caught heck for eating. They wanted me to walk but I was NOT walking the halls (again - she had a dry run 3 weeks before) so I walked in the LD room. My water broke at 2:55, but we didn't tell the nurses because they were in report and about 3:15, I sent PBee out to get them and I delivered DeeDee at 3:40. So, less than 8 hours of labor pains, no meds, 9lbs even.
Funny story - when I delivered BigBee, I twisted my bad knee pretty good and it was hurting that night so I walked up to the nurses station and asked if I could have a Tylenol if I was nursing. They kept trying to push Tylenol 3 and scolding me for not calling them. I was asking for 2, extra strength. Finally, it dawned on me they thought it was baby-related and told them it was my old football injury. Then I said if they didn't have any plain tylenol, I had it in my purse.

1 vaginal birth, with a medically indicated induction for pre-eclampsia. I had cervadil, pitocin, and an epidural as far as interventions go. It was a pretty smooth process, the Epidural controlled my bp and while labor was long, I only pushed for about 30 minutes. Even then, it only took so long because my contractions were still 3-3.5 minutes apart.

I didn't put my birthstories.
Son #1: Went into labor near midnight, got to the hospital and they weighed me--WHY???  I remember that so clearly and it seems like a stupid thing to make a laboring woman to do. I don't remember much except them telling me that Stadol would "take the edge off" (I will never voluntarily accept that particular drug again), and them trying to make me wear an oxygen mask. The entire labor was about 6 hours, and I pushed for 40 minutes. 6 lb 14 oz baby.
Son #2: He was 2 weeks and 3 days late, went into labor at 9.30 am, on the dot. Wandered around the house a while, thinking it would be a while but soon had to call dh to come and get me to take us all to the hospital. This labor was mostly painless. I don't remember the contractions as painful. Just a weird overwhelming feeling. Total labor was 4 hours almost to the minute, and only 15 minutes of pushing. 9 lb 15 oz baby.
Son #3: Also 2 weeks and some days late. Labor started in the middle of the night, so I'm unclear how long it really was, since I was half a sleep much of the time. This time it did hurt, mostly in my back/tailbone. Very quickly got serious, and we decided we needed to hurry when I started needing to throw up. Arrived at the hospital at a "mushy 8 cm and ready to push". Another 15 minute pushing session, 10 lb 8 oz baby.

Probably the same thing that made me decide the same. It made me feel drugged and out of control, but didn't lessen the pain at all. So then instead of being in pain, I was high and in pain. 
I delivered 4 times vaginally. First and fourth, I had interthecals (spinals). With the last one, it didn't work and I might as well have gone unmedicated. Second and third, I had wonderful epidurals.
Same thing for me with Stadol. The nurse said that (during my first labor) that it would take away the pain. I accepted it and it didn't work. It made me feel drunk. I couldn't concentrate, sleep, or think...and it didn't help with the pain. When I told the nurse how I was feeling she said, "Yes that can happen...for some women it doesn't work." Ugh.
I've delivered twice vaginally. My first one was an induction and was absolutely h o r r i b l e. That delivery ended in an unnecessary vacuum extraction.
My second delivery was much better but it still wasn't the natural birth that I had hoped for.
I've had two epidurals...this time around next June, I'm hoping with the help of my Doula that I'll achieve my desired natural birth experience.

Heavy, heavy bleeding for 4 hours and large softball-sized clot, combined with passing out on toilet led to a 911 call and emergency D&C. Glad that's over with. 5 days afterwards I'm finally feeling my energy back (from blood loss). If there's a next time, I'll go for the D&C right away!

Wait...are you saying that you just had a miscarriage 5 days ago? I'm so sorry to hear that. How are you feeling?

Yes, it was going to be a May baby, but it was not meant to be. I had suspected and now known for over a few weeks that the baby died -- and at a very early development, too. So the pain of losing this potential baby was not accute.
The incomplete miscarriage, however, was another story! That's an experience I don't want to repeat.
Thank you for your concern. We have been surprised and gladdened by people coming forth with condolences/sympathies. It reminds me that we all share the same sufferings and trials.
