I voted quote:
Yes i would like an old-fashioned trend Because it would be hilariously wonderful and surreal to see women, at say, the market for instance, wearing those. It would be like performance art.

Nope - that's really going to extremes Not me. Maybe in a theatre performance but not for everyday! I like my jeans and sweaters, thank you very much. Blessings, Garsy

Some of the balls gowns are pretty racy, what with the bare shoulders and all.

I voted, Yes i would like an old-fashioned trend I really like most of those styles, and I would wear them; but give me the style of the 1950's any day of the week. My problem is I can't sew --- not something like clothing anyways. Whatever happened to the talented/gifted form fitting Dressmakers anyway? What I really miss is nice looking, stylish house dresses; I can't find any.

Come-on.... you guys have got to be joking, you actually like this trashy look (2008_new_styles_ladies_dresses): HERE I'm 67 years old and counting, I wouldn't wear this stuff --- even to a halloween party. But I would wear this: HERE And there is Nothing wrong with the modest stuff the OP pictured; with some alterations they'd be great for today!! Same as the 50's styles would be.

You can look decently modest and wear fashionable clothing if you take the time to do so.

Of course you can. If being modest includes not drawing attention to oneself, clothing like that in the OP isn't even an option.

I said, with some alterations, so that one would not draw attention to oneself in this day and age; such as hem-line being cut to at least 1-1/2 inches below the knee cap, and get rid of the ruffles and frillies. None-the-less, How about showing some samples of what you call "fashionable clothing" in todays culture --- in everyday wear; Not business attire or evening wear, and Not pants or tight sweaters.

I just did a quick perusal of Target's website and found lots of nice things that are perfectly modest. A trip to any mall would reveal the same.

UGH I don't do Taget, WalMart, k-Mart, or the likes --- Style or fashion is only one of the many things they do not have!!!!!! Least-wise not around here or on the Web. --- IMHO. Have a Great day, I'm out of here, got to go tend to my grand-daughter, and get some housework done.

seriously? There's a reason those 200 lb dresses are not worn today in the south...about 110 degrees of reason. Are we so unbalanced and/or pharisaical that we feel forced to go to such extremes? Good grits-n-gravy, crack open the bible and read it for yourself when it comes to a modest heart and what to wear.

Ummm...doinkdom...I can assure you those kinds of dresses are not real popular up North either..... I was thinking about all those awful hoop skirts and such that were the stereotypical antebellum attire. I've had to wear those when I worked in the tourism industry down here...they are miserable to wear... Good to know that common sense abounds.

I think that ridiculous alternatives don't help anyone's cause but the comedians.
