Well I am trying to stop again. I did for 2 years but went to work in a place where they smoked. It isn’t there fault. I just took too many breaks with those who smoke.

The patches make me too anxious. I can go a day without smoking but the strangest things. I found a pack of cigarettes in my turn out coat and I always seem to want to smoke after a fire. I have removed them from my coat.
I try to use “little helpers”. I don’t smoke on the golf course. I try not to smoke while driving but that’s always been a biggie for me and I don’t smoke in the house especially when grandkids are around which seems to be all the time.

Anyway keep me in your prayers. I am trying to quit because I am just sick of the habit.
Have a blessed day dave

firefighter:

Have you thought about substituting the cigarette with another treat/reward? Also, a poster mentioned earlier something about how the subconscious relearn trigger situations:

If you resist a particular trigger once, resisting it again will be much easier.

Anyway, hang in there!

We need you to volunteer!
Someone who wants to quit smoking.
Volunteer would you like to post daily or weekly and share your good and bad days. Hopefully we can see your progress for all to rejoice with you
and to pick you up when you fail or fall.

WE who have quit or who have never smoked are wanting to encourage and pray for you.

I know there are those who don't want to be reminded about their struggle
but want us to pray for you and we will.

We welcome you on an adventure that will help you meet your goal----
to quit smoking!!

Oh wow! This means you have almost a one year head start on me!

Six months. Still quit.
180 days X 20 cigs a day= 3600 cigs not smoked
180 days X one pack a day @ 10 USD = 1800 USD saved

So we got ourselves a flat-screen LCD TV instead. With money to spare.

If this helps anybody I'm blessed to offer my 2 cents.

I smoked 2 packs a day for 40 years, and I'll tell you, the MOST important element is a DECISION that you are going to quit, no matter what.

I tried the patch, herbal help, etc, but nothing did any good, because I LOVED cigarettes. Even after bypass surgery and a heart attack, I continued to smoke. I did slow down a lot.....I quit smoking in the house and the car, etc....but I was still smoking....UNTIL
One afternoon I was sitting at the computer and I couldn't breathe.
To make a long story short, I had COPD.
If you want to know what that's like, run around the block and get REAL winded.....then pinch your nose and try to breathe thru a straw.....
That was all it took for me.......
I tossed my last pack in the trash while I was waiting for the ambulance.....
I haven't had a cigarette in my mouth since.....and that was over 4 years ago.
If you are trying to quit, God bless you.
Make the decision and DO IT!!!!
Don't wait until you get where I was. Once your lungs go bad, they don't heal.

Ten bucks a pack????
I can't even fathom that.
My old brand, Cowboy Killers (Marlboro Red) is around $28 a CARTON here, which is about what I was paying when I quit.
When I was in the Marines, I got them for $1.50 a carton when I was in the Philippines.

Oh yes. One part of the taxation system I don't mind that much: Hefty taxes on tobacco and alcohol.
