Emanuel accepts job as White House chief

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic officials say Barack Obama's fellow Chicagoan Rahm Emanuel has agreed to be White House chief of staff.

One of Obama's first decisions as president-elect was to ask the Illinois congressman to run his White House staff. Emanuel accepted Thursday after struggling over family and political considerations.

Emanuel serves in the House Democratic leadership and will have to resign his seat and put aside hopes of becoming House speaker.

Emanuel is a fiery Democrat who served as a political and policy aide in the Clinton White House. His selection is a shift in tone for Obama, who chose more low-key leadership for his presidential campaign.

Rahm is a good person to assist Obama when/if that 3 am call comes in..& just like in WEST WING is a powerful person.Good pick for O, Daschle would of been wishy-washy.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Barack Obama is the 44th president. He won in Florida, and still became president. That never happens.

In fact, Democrats are asking for a recount — they still can’t believe they won.

There was a huge celebration over at the Barack Obama headquarters . . . otherwise known as MSNBC.

This is our first black president since the first season of “24.”

Late Show with David Letterman

Attention passengers: The Straight Talk Express is no longer in service.

I went to bed early — how did Ralph Nader do?

Barack Obama is our new president. I think I speak for everybody when I say, "Anybody mind if he starts a little early?"

At the end of the night, the electoral vote count was 349 for Obama, 148 for McCain — or as Fox News says, “too close to call.”/color]

Late Night with Conan O'Brien

Last night, history was made. That’s right, John McCain stayed up past 11 p.m.

After Barack Obama was declared the winner, President Bush called him and promised to work with him to guarantee a smooth transition. When he heard this, Obama said, “Thanks — but you’ve done enough.”

All of the major networks declared Barack Obama the winner at 11 o’clock last night — except for MSNBC, which declared Obama the winner six months ago.

The city of Chicago was so excited about Obama’s win that hundreds of thousands of people turned out for his victory rally. There was an awkward moment when Obama put on a hat that said “Proud to be Muslim” and screamed, “Suckers!"

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

It’s a great day for America. I TiVoed the election so don’t tell me who won . . .

People all over the world are celebrating Obama’s victory. Sarah Palin watched the Russians celebrating from her house.

Sen. John McCain’s concession speech was beautiful. It was dignified, and it was classy. And I think the reason for that is he didn’t let Palin say anything.

It going to be terrible for late-night talk-show hosts. Obama doesn’t make that many mistakes. How can I do my job? My only hope is Biden . . .

Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Barack Obama has been elected the 44th president of the United States. I hope even if you are Republican or one those crazy small people parties you can still find something to be happy about.

If not for the first ever African-American president, be happy for the first vice president with hair plugs.

President Bush called Barack Obama to congratulate him. He said, “What an awesome night for you and your family.” I think his eloquence is what we’ll remember most about Bush.

Obama thanked Bush for his call and for all he did to help Obama get elected

Robert Gibbs, a top aide to Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on his campaign and in his Senate office, will be named the White House press secretary, a top Democratic official said.

Gibbs was usually the senior official on Air Obama, the campaign plane. As communications director of Obama's Senate office, Gibbs was a key strategist in Obama's rapid move to the national stage.

Transition planning is still at an early stage and the job has not been formally offered or accepted, officials said.

Obama wants to 'hit ground running' on economy

03:20 PM CST on Saturday, November 8, 2008

From Wire Reports

WASHINGTON – With the economy in disarray and the nation's treasury draining, President-elect Barack Obama and his advisers are trying to figure out which of his expansive campaign promises to push in the opening months of his tenure and which to put on a slower track.

Obama repeated on Saturday that his first priority would be an economic recovery program to get the nation's business system back on track and people back to work. But advisers said the question was whether they could tackle health care, climate change and energy independence at once or needed to stagger these initiatives over time.

The debate between a big-bang strategy of pressing aggressively on multiple fronts versus a more pragmatic, step-by-step approach has flavored the discussion among Obama's transition advisers for months, even before his election. The tension between these strategies has been a recurring theme in the memorandums prepared for him on various issues, advisers said.

What do the election results mean to conservatives?
By Bruce Walker
The results of the 2008 election mean a lot of things to a lot of different people. What do those results mean to conservatives? The results do not mean conservative candidates lose elections. Obama got a big slice of the conservative vote, largely because he portrayed himself as a post-ideological as well as a post-partisan candidate - and McCain tried to do just the same thing. Ronald Reagan in 1984 was the last man to run as an unabashed conservative, and he won by the last true landslide in an American presidential election.

President Bush, admired for his personal honor and deep faith, was respected by many conservatives, but he was hardly a conservative himself. No man who nominated Harriett Meiers to the Supreme Court could be considered a true conservative. Anyone who could embrace the vision of Ted Kennedy for our national education policy was not a true conservative. Anyone who could create a new entitlement for prescription drugs was not a true conservative.

Bush was simply a decent man who was not a Leftist Democrat. As McCain found out, being a decent man who is not a Leftist Democrat means nothing at all to the Left. Both men, like Bob Dole and like George H. Bush, are good Americans, admirable people, and men blissfully unaware that the Left is not just waging battles on issues like more socialism but are rather waging war on our entire way of life. Bush, Dole, McCain, and Bush Sr. were not wicked failures because they were not conservatives. They were more like Chamberlain at Munich: They did not grasp the true depth and nature of their adversary and, they thought, their adversary might be reasonable.

Palin strikes back at critics
Dan Joling - Associated Press Writer - 11/8/2008 9:05:00 AMBookmark and Share

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Gov. Sarah Palin denounced anonymous criticisms leveled at her by former John McCain aides as lies, including allegations that Republican lawyers were traveling to Alaska to reclaim her high-priced wardrobe and that she didn't know Africa was a continent.(see video clip)

"Those accounts are not true," the former Republican vice presidential candidate said in her first public comments on the matter since the election Tuesday.

Palin returned Friday to her Anchorage governor's office and said she had no immediate plans to build on her newfound national name-recognition and popularity with the Republican base for a possible 2012 presidential run.

In Japan, officials in a small town called Obama say they’re going to invite Barack Obama to visit. A similar trip happened after Bill Clinton was elected and was invited to Horndog, Thailand.

Yesterday, president-elect Barack Obama spent the day thanking the people who helped him win the election. Obama’s first phone call was to Sarah Palin.

Sources from the McCain campaign say that when they were prepping Sarah Palin for the debates, they found out that she thought Africa was a country, not a continent. To be fair to Sarah Palin, it is hard to see Africa from Alaska.

Barack Obama was briefed today by the Treasury secretary on the economy. Afterwards, Obama called John McCain and offered him the presidency.

Now that the election is over, instead of election fever, I’ve got election hangover. To cure it, I’ve started voting on other things. Last night, I voted a hundred times on “Dancing With the Stars.”

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

During one touching moment during Barack Obama’s acceptance speech, Oprah was crying; Jesse Jackson was crying; Hillary was crying . . . in fact, she’s still crying.

Political analysts are saying Obama’s win was unprecedented — which confused George Bush, who said, “You mean he didn’t win?”

Today, Obama started receiving the daily White house intelligence briefing on things like security, terrorism . . . stuff like that. The same thing President Bush receives, but without all the pictures and color-by-numbers things.

Obama spent his first day as president-elect by assembling his transition team. And if you believe MSNBC, by tomorrow, he will have chosen all 12 of his disciples.

Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship

By BEN EVANS – 16 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

There are some people who want a national holiday in honor of Barack Obama. Isn’t this a little soon? Even Jesus had to do some stuff before he got his own holiday.

A lot of people have been naming their babies Barack. I guess Barack is the new Chad.

It’s not all good news for Barack Obama. His friend Oprah Winfrey is ending her show. I share your pretend concern. I share your “don’t really care,” too.

According to a new report, thousands of pregnant mothers in this country are planning to name their baby Barack. After hearing this, Sarah Palin told her daughter Bristol, “Don’t even think about it.”

Earlier today at the White House, President Bush had a private meeting in the Oval Office with President-elect Barack Obama. Then, afterwards Obama met with Dick Cheney to see how things really work.

Since becoming the president-elect, Barack Obama has been getting the same daily national security briefings that President Bush receives. Except when they brief Obama, national security advisers are allowed to leave in the “scary parts.”

7. "I appreciate the offer, but you can take the spittoons with you"

3. "When there's a big crisis, you might be here as late as 4 p.m."

2. "Other than the economy, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, the deficit, the crumbling infrastructure, our energy policy, Gitmo, and global warming, is there anything else I need to fix?"

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

In the country of Sierra Leone, 6 out of 10 male newborns at Freetown's main hospital were named Barack. Six out of 10. Even more amazing? At least 23 babies born in North Carolina last year were named John Edwards junior.

Today was another historic day. President Bush took President-elect Barack Obama on a tour of the White House. At one point, Barack Obama opened a closet and Bush said, “Don’t open that!” and a huge stack of unread intelligence memos fell out.

Barack Obama attended a parent-teacher conference at his daughters’ school the other day. Very positive meeting. The teacher said both girls are already reading at a President Bush’s level.

Late Show with David Letterman

President-elect Barack Obama and his wife went on their first date since the election. It’s weird having a Democrat in the White House who actually dates his own wife.

Earlier today, Barack Obama met with President Bush at the White House. So you had the president-elect and the president inept.

As soon as Obama shook hands with President Bush, Obama’s ratings went down 10 points.

At8:30 am I will be @ MT. SINAI'S LIVER TRANSPLANT CENTER, for extensive tests& several meetings. A transplant, thank God is a back-up if needed years from now.

Complicating things is that I will probably move around 12/15 to live w/ my large family in Pensacola, Fla....some who I have not seen in 30 yrs. & had past tense family relationships (2-3 only out of dozens).....

They say a simple move can be as stressful as a death, divorce, etc.

So, as you can guess I will provide NEWS UPDATES but while in-between runs.

Need your prayers...

REPORT: OBAMA CONSIDERING HILLARY FOR SECRETARY OF STATE

WASHINGTON - We may soon be calling Hillary Rodham Clinton "Madame Secretary."

The New York senator and former first lady is being considered for secretary of state by President-elect Barack Obama - an appointment that would go a long way toward healing the wounds left by their bruising Democratic primary battle.

Two Obama advisers confirmed Clinton is under serious consideration, according to NBC News' Andrea Mitchell.

OK Hil' is my senator & I have never nor would I ever vote for her..but in a lib admin she'd be pretty good..she's been to many nations & knows many world leaders, and remains calm in stressful situations.

I think this signals that Bumbling Biden won't have a powerful hand in foreign policy.

Also, it'd be interesting to see who our multi-adulterer Gov. Patterson puts in as a temp...There's been no NY media spectulation but I think it could be AG Cuomo or the Kathern Hepbrn sounding Bobby Kennedy Jr. (even more liberal than Cuomo & maybe even Barry.

Also I wrote way back when there was dem pressure to put the other adulterer-in-chief Bubba in her spot.

OBAMA, MCCAIN TO MEET MONDAY
This ain't the WEST WING (1 of my favorites) where Matt Santos asks his GOP opponent after a Santo's win to serve as SOS.

However anything's possible like Vets Affairs but if not McCain most definitely should be Max Cleland who lost limb for this great nation.

Many will recall I've already summized that Obama may ask McCain to head a group to change disabled vets medical care/like the Rumsfeld shame/among many of Walter Reed, etc. & speed up benefits, etc.

More from BB1 if Hil' becomes SOS..will Bill have tea & look at gardens w/ the first ladies of France, Rusia, Italy, w/ the queen, etc. ????.& he shouldn't really go w/ her too often as he could overshadow her/however he would be a great silent adviser.

The Clinton seat could be won by Rudy or Bloomy...

Obama Declares War on Conservative Talk Radio
By Jim Boulet, Jr.
Barack Obama sought to silence his critics during his 2008 campaign. Now, with the ink barely dry on this November's ballots, Obama has begun a war against conservative talk radio.

Obama is on record as saying he does not plan an exhumation of the now-dead "Fairness Doctrine". Instead, Obama's attack on free speech will be far less understood by the general public and accordingly, far more dangerous.

The late community organizer Saul Alinsky*** taught his followers to strike hard from an unexpected direction, an approach known as Alinsky jujitsu.

***When working w/ Chicano's in Cali. I wastrained in Alinsky's tactics which are very effective, bb1.

I believe that America will not survive the political and social trials that are to come if we are not engaged in the fight to protect our Christian beliefs. The Ten Commandments, written by the hand of God, are our moral compass. Liberalism has slowly worked its way into mainstream Christian denominations. If it were not so we would have been a wiser people and elected a president who shares the same principles found in the teachings of the Great I Am.

Many evangelicals and Catholics voted in to the office of the presidency America's most liberal senator on social issues that concern our children's sexual identity, marriage and the sanctity of human life. All of these extremely important topics appear to be above Barack Hussein Obama's pay grade. What were these Christians thinking?

A California-based immigration reform activist hopes supporters of illegal immigration will follow through on their plans to stage huge rallies in Washington, DC, on January 21, to push the incoming Obama administration for amnesty.

The two groups that call themselves the National Capital Immigrant Coalition and the Fair Immigration Reform Movement recently held a news conference at Washington's National Press Club to announce a "mass mobilization" by illegal immigrants scheduled to take place the day after Barack Obama becomes the nation's 44th president.

Rick OltmanThe groups are calling on Obama for "just and humane immigration reform" and "a pathway to legalization." Rick Oltman, the national spokesman for Californians for Population Stabilization, says the bigger the crowd, the better.

PBS Nova Series Declares Bill Maher Right: Old Testament Just a 'Book of Jewish Fairy Tales'
By P.J. Gladnick (Bio | Archive)
November 17, 2008 - 09:07 ET

Perhaps the PBS Nova producers should have consulted the Naked Archaeologist or The Bible as History before making a show whose purpose is to debunk the Old Testament. Here is the description of the special two hour edition of Nova as reported by Reuters/Hollywood Reporter:

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Bill Maher, on HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher," frequently refers to the Old Testament of the Bible as the Book of Jewish Fairy Tales. The description might anger the pious and the fundamentalists, but guess what? Maher's close to the truth.

A visually stunning two-hour special edition of "Nova" examines decades of archaeological studies that contradict much of what is in the Bible. The entire Exodus story is debunked, as is the idea that the Israelites were monotheistic following the contract made between God and Abraham. It turns out idol worship was common through the reign of King David and right up to the Babylonian exile.

LA Times Only Just Notices Obama Has Thin Resume?
By Warner Todd Huston (Bio | Archive)
November 18, 2008 - 04:43 ET

Interestingly, Dan Morain of the L.A. Times has just discovered that Barack Obama has a pretty thin resume prior to being elevated to the presidency. Between 1993 and '96, Obama, the much-ballyhooed "Constitutional scholar," had only an unusually low 3,723 billable hours of legal work accrued over a four-year stint with his law firm employer Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Gallard. Further, he seems to have worked on but few cases and made little impact commensurate with his reputation. The question I have, of course, is why is the L.A. Times only NOW interested that Obama was "involved in relatively few cases before entering politics"? Where was this investigating before the election?

The Morain piece begins by recounting how Obama has so often made a big deal out of his days as a "civil-rights attorney" claiming it a key ingredient of his early, formative community development years. Yet, Morain finds that there isn't much record proving that Obama did a whole heck-of-a-lot back in those days. (bold mine)

Senior attorneys at the small firm where he worked say he was a strong writer and researcher, but was involved in relatively few cases before entering politics.

Michael Savage Beats CAIR

Monday, November 17, 2008 4:46 PM

Talk Radio Network host Michael Savage recently pursued a copyright infringement and RICO lawsuit against the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) for allegedly illegally publishing quotes and audio excerpts from the syndicated talk show regarding Islam out of context, and using them for fundraising purposes while damaging the value of Savage’s copyrighted material.

While the initial lawsuit filed by Savage was withdrawn, CAIR attempted to extract attorney’s fees and costs from Savage that totaled close to $200,000.00.

Judge Susan Illston of the U.S. District Court (a Clinton-appointee) ruled in favor of Savage, denying the Islamic lobby group any attorney’s fees or costs. In doing so, she found that Savage’s claim was not frivolous as CAIR claimed.

The chiefs of the "Big Three" US automakers travel to Congress Tuesday to plead with lawmakers to save their talismanic American industry, despite fading hopes for a quick congressional bailout.

Their testimony, to be followed by an appearance before a House of Representatives panel Wednesday, comes with millions of jobs threatened as the industry's crippling losses are exacerbated by the deepening economic crisis .

Half of primary care physicians would quit
Rick Moran
One of the more disturbing studies I've seen in a while:

Nearly half the respondents in a survey of U.S. primary care physicians said that they would seriously consider getting out of the medical business within the next three years if they had an alternative.

The survey, released this week by the Physicians' Foundation, which promotes better doctor-patient relationships, sought to find the reasons for an identified exodus among family doctors and internists, widely known as the backbone of the health industry.

A U.S. shortage of 35,000 to 40,000 primary care physicians by 2025 was predicted at last week's American Medical Association annual meeting.
