ORIGINAL: Thursday_GKC It would be interesting to know how the ratings for that time spot did with the Olympics there instead of Biggest Loser. I wonder how many turned the channel, like me, when they realized that Biggest Loser wasn't on? Trust me, they're likely higher. The Olympics draws a completely different--and larger--audience than any regular programming. (And even if it didn't, it wouldn't matter. NBC carries the Olympics and that's that.) Edited to add, if you really need to know, NBC has had 28 million viewers over the past four nights. (33 million watched the opening ceremonies.) Biggest Loser generally attracts about 8 million.

Thanks stella it was a curiosity of mine and I was not making a point either way. I had read that NBC was prepared to lose upwards of $250 million for their airing of the Olympics, I was curious (and still am) how this can be if they recieve such a large audiance? One thing I am sure of, they do not lose that with the Biggest Loser or the show would not be going on its 9th season. I am betting with the Biggest Loser merchandise and all that NBC does quite well with the Biggest Loser name. Advertising minus production costs. That amount is stretched across the entire Olympics, not one night. NBC can't guarantee the same advertisers will buy, or pay as much, etc. for spots during the games. NBC is likely paying Canadian broadcasting for rights to air events, plus crews, talent, etc. But the network will still garner higher ratings for this book than the other networks which it can use to its advantage later. February books during the Olympics are throwaways for whichever networks aren't broadcasting the games. However, Biggest Loser isn't the fabulous show you might think. For the week prior to the Olympics, NBC didn't even have a single show in the top 10 and Biggest Loser wasn't even in the top 20. (In fact, Biggest Loser hasn't been in the top 20 all season.)

Actually I don't think Biggest Loser is that fabulous of a show. This is my first season watching it and I did that only because I put my wife through an entire season of football (two if you count NFL and College) and agreed to sit down and watch something with her for a season which she chose Biggest Loser. I admit, I got hocked by the show (please don't tell her that) and was looking forward to watching it, however when we saw that the Olympics were on we quickly changed it and watched something else. NBC not having a show in the top 10 shows that the network as a whole is not doing well (something which I can't say I am too upset about . If it weren't for a couple of shows I would avoid NBC altogher). God bless you

The show isn't what it used to be. The commercials Bob and Jillian give, the constant attempts by the trainers to get the people crying about why they are overweight, it makes it sort of boring IMO. I still watch it, but I do so from my DVR so I can fast-forward all that stuff. My husband and I both agree that without the DVR we would probably never sit through the 2 hours a week to watch it.

I really just watch the last hour of the show each week anymore. I can skip most of the drama and boring stuff that way...LOL!

Thanks, the application process is insane. After all that work i certainly hope i get picked... I make on promise to this thread, i will NOT be a tracey. One thing i emphasized in my audition screening was the importance of Christ in my life, maybe i will be cast as the religious zealot??? hehe

I was glad the black team won and gave Michael a piece of humble pie. And I'm sure that Melissa was glad to hear that Lance didn't go home right away. lol.

Michael is kind of a real pain in the rear, hmm? I know it's a game and there's big $$ involved, but when all you think of is yourself, it kinda stinks. Especially at this stage of the game. Should be interesting to see what other twists are coming up in future weeks.

I think what shocked me the most about last night's show was when Michael was showing a letter/pic from home...and he weighed 300 lbs just 6 years ago. So in that amount of time he gained over 200 lbs?? Crazy.

Nods. I'm not doubting the impossibility of it...just that he allowed himself to slip so far as to almost double his size in that amount of time. I'll be really curious to see if he keeps the weight off after the show.

ORIGINAL: DeeAnnBailey It isn't that I don't understand Michael, I do, and understanding him I don't like him. It's time to 'man up' you can't take 'sneaky backroads' if you truly want to address your problems. You just need to address them. It may be hard but hurting a LOT of people to keep from handling your own issues isn't a good idea. While I agree that Michael needs to grow up, I think that's easier said than done. Considering they all had the opportunity to go for the power to make the teams what they wanted them to be but didn't and the Black team won the weigh in, just how did Michael hurt people? I think the Brothers treat Michael like he's less than they are. Are they culpable in any of this? Also I'm not so sure of how the BL deals with people's emotional baggage. I know I've seen Jillian & Bob "talk" to people about breaking thru, but I've never seen any professionals in this arena on the BL so how is Michael supposed to "just address them (his problems"? Are his problems supposed to disappear with his weight loss and at the same rate of his weight loss?
