Hi, I'm kind a new here. You can call me Lee Sha. I just need to share and ask your opinion as Christians. So, I am working for this company for 3 years now. At first it seemed like a good decision, as I had applied to others companies and this companies offered the best offer as in position and salary. I was promoted 1.5 years ago and here I am now. Most likely, I went home after spending 12 hours at the office. At first, I like my job, it has a lot of admin works and I find that I am quite natural to do it. It's good right? to discover your strength and know yourself more. In the other side, I sometimes bring my job home. However, I have been thinking lately about my life, and wondering if I am a workaholic. I became restless to think, could I be wasting time of my life to go to different direction than I should be? I'm still looking and confirming my purpose of life, what God want me to do with my life. But I feel like I kind a lost here. Well, anyway, thanks for listening.

Be glad that you CAN BE A WORKAHOLIC!!! I would give money to be able to have that label now: in the last 5 years, I have worked a grand total of 14 months...

It is possible that you are a workaholic, particularly if you find yourself working when you don't really need to (your boss isn't requiring it, you just want to do it). Or if you find yourself turning to work because you are lonely or anxious. Or if you are losing family and friends because of workaholism.

One thing that you can do, is simply start working the number of hours you are supposed to. If it is 40, do that most of the time. Sometimes, if the job requires it, you can work more. But otherwise, do what is required. If you find yourself feeling restless, find other things to do with your time. Put the Lord at the center of your life. He'll regulate your worklife and all other aspects of your life too.

Plus know that if you are good at your job and you are a workaholic, sometimes people at work will take advantage of that. A good way to get out of that is to say no if it is something completely unreasonable. Another thing that can help, especially if you are scared of getting fired because of the economy, is to ask them if things can wait. Prioritize your tasks - A, B, and C. If your C's don't get done for a while, that's ok. Make appointments with yourself, your friends, your family so that you HAVE to leave work on time.

Congratulations on finding your gifts. Not many people do. And don't worry - God will lead you in what you should do as long as you continue to seek him!

all the best,

rgod

Are you being PAID (or otherwise compensated) for the hours you are working? Are these hours REQUIRED by the job? If the answer to either of these questions is no, then you need to evaluate your priorities.

I work a job where the couple of years I was regularly working up to 12 hours per day...it was necessary (lives may have depended on the timeliness and accuracy of my work), for a short time I was not getting paid for this...finally I told my supervisor that I would not work the hours if I was not compensated for them. End result, I still worked many hours, but got paid for overtime. Now I work less overtime because we have a larger workforce.

I have also worked jobs where I regularly brought my job home...again ask yourself if this is necessary and are you compensated for it?
